I'm planning on starting my decking and flooring project on my tracker 1542 next weekend, the only thing i haven't decided on is what thickness i need for the aluminum flooring and the decking.. Re: floor materials for aluminum boat do not use pt anywhere near an aluminum boat. corrosion will occur. i used exterior grade sealed with epoxy resin for my deck. marine grade is a superior product but costs a lot more. hopefully someone more knowledgeable than i will chime in about mdo and hdo.. I am planning my winter boat project already and i am wanting to replace my rotten plywood deck with aluminum and i need some info. i'll be adding a cooler, more/better storage and livewell and also a rod locker to my 12 foot frp boat. if i were to replace a plywood casting deck with an aluminum casting deck, what thickness of aluminum would be.
Aluminum floor thickness page 1 of 1 [ 11 posts ] previous topic | next topic: author message; base_v5 i used .63 alumimum tread plate 4x8 foot sheet for the flooring in my jet jon boat with grate results,no regreats at all.i buy a 1 1/2 inch foam sheet from menards and put the foam between the ribs for suport.i keep my jet boat light so. Two major differences: weight and aluminum bottom gauge/thickness. one boat is much heavier 2680 lbs with .250” bottom thickness, and the other 1650 lbs with 0.1875” bottom thickness. they seem like big differences. i’m attracted to a lighter boat for towing, handling, fuel economy, shoving off the beach.. We ended up with the usual composite laminate floor and then had rhino do their magic. i would have opted for diamond plate aluminum but the manufacturer felt that in a thickness sufficient for rigidity the aluminum floor was simply too heavy..
